U – Universal: It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over.‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
PG - Parental Guidance: General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.
12A - No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult if, in the adult's judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult.

Showcase will only grant admission to films in accordance with the requirements of the British Board of Film Classification. One of those requirements is that we verify the age of any patron who appears as though he or she might be younger than the minimum permissible age for a particular film. Any patron who appears, in the opinion of our employee(s), that he or she might be below the minimum permissible age for film for which he or she wishes to purchase a ticket and/or gain admittance may be asked to provide photo identification proving that he or she is at least the minimum permissible age for such film. All photo identification must also include a date of birth. Examples of acceptable photo identification include passports, photo driving licences, student cards and school passes, ValidateUK cards, PASS-Scheme cards, Connexions cards, Prove-it Portman cards and citizen cards. Due to legal requirements, we need to ensure that all guests are of the required legal age to watch a film, as per the certificates below. As a result, you may need valid photo identification with you showing your date of birth.
We now accept digital ID as a form of age verification. This can be set up via the Yoti app and is a safe way to prove your age and identity using your phone – online and in person. It takes just minutes to create:
1. Download the Yoti or Post Office EasyID app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store
2. Register on the app following the instructions on screen
3. Add your government-approved ID document. Yoti accepts passports, driving licences and national ID cards from 185+ countries
4. Add a photo. This will be the photo displayed on your digital ID
5. Once your identity document has been verified your digital ID is ready to use (this could take a few minutes)
